Our Lessons from Bennevis: Addressing challenges after Bennevis Kiosk Handover

At Vivid Interiors, we took on an exciting challenge by designing and constructing an outdoor kiosk for Bennevis, the famous ice cream brand. It was a thrilling experience for us, but as with any project, there were unexpected challenges that tested our team’s perseverance and problem-solving skills.

The project kicked off smoothly. We designed an 8 feet by 7 feet kiosk that matched the Bennevis brand standards, and the initial construction process went as planned. We started by building a strong metal frame, which came together exactly as envisioned. The UPVC roof covering was installed next, and at this point, everything seemed to be going perfectly.

But then came the real challenge—installing the kiosk’s heavy shutter, weighing 35 kg. Finding hydraulic hinges to operate it was no easy task. We scoured the market, searched all over Kathmandu, and went through multiple options that didn’t quite fit our needs. Finally, after exhaustive research, we found a solution that worked, bringing a huge sense of relief to the team.

Once the framing and shutter were done, it was time to deliver the kiosk to the site. This process was a mix of both excitement and anxiety. The kiosk was heavy and transporting it required a crane. We had to plan carefully to ensure everything arrived in one piece. The finishing touches, like paintwork, were intentionally left for after delivery, knowing the risks involved in transporting such a large structure.

Just when we thought we had completed the project, the real test came a month after handover. Kathmandu experienced heavy rainfall, and the kiosk developed a water leakage issue. Despite giving considerable thought to weatherproofing, being our first outdoor kiosk, we hadn’t foreseen this specific problem. The situation was disappointing for both Bennevis and us.

We were determined to make things right. Despite the setback, we worked closely with Bennevis to fix the problem. We had to revisit the site and redo the roofing and finishing to ensure the kiosk was truly weatherproof. It was a humbling experience, filled with moments of frustration, but we were there for our client at every step. Our commitment to providing the best solution never wavered, and in the end, we were able to deliver the perfect kiosk.

In projects like these, chaos and conflict are inevitable. There were moments when timelines became tight, the weather worked against us, and the team faced immense pressure. But it’s in these tough moments that we grow, learning how to stay calm under stress, adapt quickly, and keep the client’s best interests at the forefront. Our journey with Bennevis showed us that it’s not about avoiding problems—it’s about how you respond when they arise.

Through the ups and downs, Bennevis stood by us. Their patience, trust, and willingness to let us solve the challenges were rare qualities in a client. Even when things didn’t go according to plan, they supported us as we found solutions. This partnership is something we deeply appreciate, and it has strengthened our relationship for future collaborations.

The Bennevis outdoor kiosk project taught us invaluable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and client communication. Though it wasn’t without its challenges, we emerged from it more experienced and ready for future projects. We’re proud of what we accomplished, and we’re even prouder of the relationships we built along the way.
